Summary
The Monkees enter April's Laundromat (Clothes Lines Are For The Birds) to do their laundry. As each of the guys meet the beautiful owner April Conquest, they become instantly smitten. Dazed by their affections they keep muttering "soap" as Wally Cox enters with a box of detergent with a question mark and begins to arm wrestle with an arm coming out of the washing machine.
At the pad, they're still love struck over April and one by one they make excuses to leave the pad. Then Davy, Mike and Micky and Peter (inside the washing machine) all wind up at the Laundromat mooning over April as she explains to them the art of laundry science. At the pad again, the guys bicker over falling for the same girl. To get the minds off it, they decide to watch TV where Dr. Lorene Sisters, who solves problems in love lives readsa letter from a viewer on how to win a girl's affection. She advises to find out what kind man she likes and become that man. The guys follow her advice and each makes a phone call to find out what kind a man April likes. Davy phones the mother as David Armstrong Jones of BBC, Mike calls April as Dr. Frigmund Fried pretending to do research on women, Micky as a DJ. from MOT radio station pretending to give radio telephone quiz and Peter phones her neighbor asking about her hobbies.
Later, each show up at the Laundromat masquerading the different types of men she loves with Davy as an artist sketching the walls(a big red X and a blue arrow), Micky a ballet dancer literally flying through the air, Peter riding in on a bicycle piano playing chamber music and Mike riding in on a motorcycle. To impress her they all try to outdo the other as the "Monkees theme" plays leading to chaos at the Laundromat when Micky accidentally lands on Mike's motorcycle before he crashes into the wall Davy was painting leaving. They all manage to win the affections of the fickled April who declares her love to all of them. Back at the pad, the guys still mooning over April and to the song "The Girl I Knew Somewhere" each imagines themselves artists, dancers, pianists and motorcyclists in order to win her affection which ends with them in judo outfits sparring until April in white appears on rocking horse and a explosion ends with the all the guys outfits now dirty.
The guys vying for the same girl has them dividingtheir pad into four sections. While watching Dr. Sisters, she reads a letter from Peter under the pseudonym Tormented explaining their troubles with April. Then she explains that in making April fall for four different guys, she's in a dangerous emotional state that could lead to a nervous collapse. To prove it, she reads a letter signed Laundromat from April revealing her love for the Monkees and her nervous condition. Then the guys rush out to the Laundromat to let April decide among them when they see a sign on door stating: Closed due to illness. Feeling responsible for her condition which will cause her business to go down, they decide to play fingers to pick one of them for her and Peter's the winner. The other three head off to April’s place leaving Peter to run the Laundromat in April’s absence. At her place, the guys confront a bedridden April and each declare to have given up their hobby encouring her to be with Peter. Meanwhile at the Laundromat, all chaos is loose with Peter running things as a crowd of harasses Peter over the damages. The others all soon show up to stop the chaos followed by a now recoveredApril who declares her gratitude to him.
Later at the pad, a dressed up Peter is preparing a candle lit dinner for his date with April while the others sulk when April shows up at the doorstep only to introduce Peter to her fiancee whom she just met, a hippy named Freddy Fox III(she's never met a singer before). A devastated Peter starts bawling and all are now depressed until four pretty women show up claiming to be their new neighbors and wanting directions to the Laundromat. When the guys realize there's four of each for them, they all make advances at young ladies and leave the pad with them.
