Summary
Micky is approached by a hood named Tony Ferano while in a parking lot who seems to mistake him for someone else. Then the guy acts afraid of Micky begins to attack with a rolled up newspaper.
After the assault, Mike convinces Micky to go to the police but at the police station, the police captain too mistakes Micky for someone else until Mike explains who he is. Then the captain shows them a picture of a gangster who's a dead ringer for Micky. He explains that gangster is Babyface Morales, the most vicious killer in America who's in prison. However, his gang and the loot they stole are still loose and he wants Micky to impersonate Babyface to get both the thugs and the loot. Micky refuses but the captain warns him that Babyface has a lot of enemies and with a face like his he could get hurt. Micky isn't convinced until leaves the station and Tony and his gang make a drive by shooting with Micky as the target nearly hitting him in which he speeds back into the station and agrees to the job. First, he has to learn Babyface's mannerisms so he visits Babyface in prison claiming to be a cousin from Ohio who's been trying to follow in his footsteps. Babyface then shows him his moves and his speech but Micky ends up being throttled by Babyface when he inadvertantly slaps him while trying to impersonate him. The captain tells him to go to the local hangout called The Purple Pelican where Babyface's gang hangs out to find out where the loot is. He shows him photographs of the other gang members and gives information about them. There's Tony Ferano(alias Big Tony, Tony the Rock, Tony the Slasher, and Kissing Clyde) and Mugsy Ruckyzer(alias Mugsy Ruck, Mugsy Reynolds, Mugsy Raymond, and Sherry Fingerhead).
At the Purple Pelican, Micky is confronted by Ruby, Babyface's chick. Thinking he's Babyface, she warns him that Tony is now the boss since he's been gone and may not want to let him back in the gang. Micky convinced he can trust her hands her a key for a locker at a bus depot containing a book with names and dates just before Tony, Mugsy and Vince show up. Tony tells him he can't get back in the gang because he's a has been but Micky informs him that he was has been now he's an am is. Soon a bar fight erups to the song "The Kind Of Girl I Could Love" which ends with everyone on the floor out cold except Micky and the gang. The bruised up gang decides to let Babyface back in after all and head for the back room but Micky ends up going into the ladies room by mistake. At a meeting in the back room, Micky discusses with the guys about getting the Dewitt diamonds the next night, splitting them up and going undercover plus he's bringing in two specialists for help. Tony starts to get suspicious when Micky almost slips by not knowing where their regular meeting place is and nearly forgetting his name and he decides to tail him. At the Monkees pad, Micky's on the phone with the captain asking for the two specialists to aid him since he doesn't want to involve Peter and Mike. Just then, the thugs show up and grab Micky insisting on going to the Dewitt place to get the diamonds that night and drag him out along with Mike and Peter thinking they’re the specialists.
Just after they all leave, the phone rings from the captain who wants to warn Micky that the real Babyface just escaped from prison. Arriving at the Pelican, Babyface is confronted by Ruby who questions him regarding being out with Tony and the gang to pick up the diamonds and with that he speeds out of there. Meanwhile at the Dewitt place, the gang tries to get Micky to remember which stone in the fireplace he hid the diamonds behind when Mike and Peter come up with a plan and by placing dynamite in the fireplace try to blow it up but wind up blowing up the piano behind them instead. Annoyed by their incompetance, Tony has Mugsy and Vince use a crowbar to drill through the stones instead but they are interrupted when a policeman shows up and everyone hides except Mike who nervously confronts the cop. Just as it seems that the cop is suspicious, it turns out he only wants to sell Mike tickets for the police’s ball for $20 and Mike buys all of them as he leaves. Then the guys continue their work and just as they get a box containing the diamonds out, Babyface shows up. Micky tries to continue the pretense that he’s the real Babyface but when the gang questions both of them on a job they did in order to expose the imposter, Peter mistakenly gives Micky away and soon the lights are out as a mad chase around the room ensures. The trio end up apprehending the gang just as the police show up to take them away. The captain thanks the guys by giving them each a half of the jewelry but Micky isn’t satisfied about just getting an ear ring.
At the police station, the captain is pleased about getting the whole gang and the loot but tells Mike there is still one loose end: he can’t tell Micky and Babyface apart as they both claim to be the real Micky Dolenz! The Monkees finish this episode by performing the song “Mary, Mary”.
